The Athletic journalist James Pearce has taken to social media to clarify comments that he made on Timo Werner during a recent live Q&A.Pearce has reiterated that the RB Leipzig forward “has been mentioned” as a potential signing for the Reds during this summer’s transfer window. But the journalist has firmly rejected suggestions that the European Cup holders are on the verge of launching an offer for the Germany international.

Taking to social media on Sunday afternoon, Pearce pointed out that Werner would be a cheaper option for Liverpool than Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.

However, he has insisted that there are no guarantees when it comes to a potential move for the centre-forward at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

Werner has been in terrific form for his Bundesliga side during the current season, scoring 25 times and providing 10 assists in 30 appearances in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Liverpool could allegedly be prepared to sell this attacker ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
